Im planning to buy me a mr2 too, but I guess it will be at least over 6 months before I can have one. Im thinking about having non-pop-ups myself, but im thinking whats the best way. The lights should be approved by the government here (The Netherlands/Holland)because I dont want to get trouble. Any suggestions ?? Keep on the good work! GreetZ Fred aliastaurus@hotmail.com

Jim I have heard about you through word of mouth for such a long time and now browsing through your website. It is great that it is so informational for mr2 owners. I have owned my 91t for two years and now beginning to modify it. I wish I lived in the East Coast so I can gain knowledge & talk about mr2s from the Beast master, but I'm in CA. My question is when I dynoed my car with the Blitz exhaust I got tons of black smoke and it's running rich? Is there a cure for that because I know mr2s run rich. I am pretty stock with 104000 miles. Hi there, my name is Bobby. I'm viewing you site from London,UK. I've left comments b4, a while back. Nothing new to really say other than it continues to amaze and impress. The standard of modding contained in your chariot stands as something for others to aspire to. I can only wait till your next ingenious mod takes shape. If compliments feel good then consider this a big one from my part of the world, I know many others in the IMOC-UK and MR2DC clubs feel the same. Just one comment, it would be nice on your site to see more photos of the exterior in it entirety as new things were added. It used to be more this way but now it just has the latest pics with one good phots of the car with the older round lamps. I've liked it at almost evry stage and it's a shame not to see those earlier stages anymore. Continue to enjoy you baby. - Bobby (shaggar1@hotmail.com)

Good morning, Jim, I just finished browsing your Beast site for the first time, having gotten a link from some note on the MR2 DL. Needless to say, I'm very impressed with the car, the project, and your engineering talent - so much so, that I thought I'd ask your advice on my own little quandary. (I won't be offended if you don't respond; I imagine you get tons of email, and mine is totally unsolicited.) I have an 87 Mark-Ina with a stock motor I'm currently working on to diagnose either a cracked head or blown head gasket. This has nothing to to with my question to you, just that I may have the engine out and an opportunity to try a different flywheel - that's my question (finally). I've wanted to get a little more power, without jeopardizing my CA smog status. My car is a late 87 with the 212mm clutch & flywheel. I did try a lightweight flywheel a few years ago, with a 200mm Centerforce clutch/pressure plate assy, and loved the noticeably quicker acceleration. But it broke in less than a year :o( I had chosen those 200mm "early Mk-I" parts for availability & affordability, at the time. The clutch failed with broken cushioning biscuit retainer flanges (all my clutches have failed that way). Now that I may have the engine out, I'm considering again trying a lightweight flywheel, but this time, 212mm size, Fidanza aluminum or JUN steel. My question is, do you think a lightweight flywheel will inevitably shorten my clutch life, or was my problem with the 200mm setup more due to its smaller size? Thanks in advance for any advice, and again let me express my admiration for your car and the whole project. Regards, Bob Peitzke Pacific Palisades, CA bob@sanderkessler.com 1987 Mark-Ina stock motor, 205/40-17 Yoko Parada's 188K miles, had it 14 years, love it!

Great Site!!! This has to been the most complete insight into the modification of the 3sgte that i have read. Your experiences are helping me make the hard pressed decisions that come when you try to modify these cars. I have recently begun modifying my black 93t (good taste hey) and have come to the conclusion that these cars are not the bulldog performers that i have had experience with before. (awd dsm's, 3000gt, ect.) and require much more tlc, but that is what i was looking for not a complete drag machine, but an all around car. You seem to model this very well in the aproach you take. I do have a couple questions for you. What are the specs on your t3/t4, i read that it was indeed a 50 trim. What about the a/r? .48? j/w because i myself will be installing a t3/t4 turbo 50trim .48 a/r on my car later in the week. How was the power delivery? I am not to conserned with lag, but would like the power to come in smoothly. thanks for your time, adam norton louisville, ky imazero18@aol.com

Jim, My name is Mike Cameron from Henderson NC. I am very impressed with "THE BEAST" I have a 91 toyota Mr-2 Turbo that i am working on now. I have searched everywhere for an answer and can't find it. I am hoping you might be able to give me a few answers if you have the time. I put the suspension Techniques 1.3 drop springs on my car and now i am looking at rims for it. I looked at 17 by 7 inch rims but i'm not sure what offset i will need to make the rims flush with the fender wells. I don't want the tires sticking outside of the fenders. Can i go biger than 17 by 7 inch rims or will it be messed up with the 1.3 drop? I would love to go with 18"rims but i am worried it might rub some or that the bottom of my struts would be in the way. I have replaced the cartriges in the struts but the strut housings are stock. Can you give me any info to help me out? Also any ideas what size tires to go with for the rims? I have been to alot of sites searching for this info and can't find out much at all. All the tire places around here tell me that 17 by 7 inch is fine but they don't know what offset i need to make them flush with the fenders. Yours look excellent!! That is the type of look i am looking for. Plaese help if you can. thumper1@nc.rr.com or mikekcameron@yahoo.com

Great site, amazing car. If you have time, I would appreciate your opinion on something. I am planning a set of modifications to my 93 Turbo. I am looking for modest increase in power at modest cost. I am considering Greddy intercooler, some cone intake, exhaust upgrade, boost controller, maybe ignition upgrade, maybe engine management system.
My main concern about this process is that I do not want to increase turbo lag. I have read one opinion from a guy who sounded like he had a good grasp of the physics of the airflow and who claimed that reducing the back pressure by opening the exhaust will cause an increase in turbo lag. One of the things that I noted in your descriptions of the Beast is that you are interested in preserving the breadth of the power band, and reducing the boost kick. Since your early stage modifications sound alot like what I am planing, can you comment on this issue?

Dennis Parker
Austin Texas dparker@onr.com

First of all, great car. Ive been checking your page regularly for a while, and Im always impressed. The Beast is what my 91 T wants to be when she grows up. Now for my question, I had the ct-26 replaced, do to bad seals, and when I picked the car up mechanic told me the timing belt needed replacement, he said a noise coming from the engine bay was the belt slapping against the cover. Belt was changed, sound still there. Nobody has been able to tell me what the problem is, the noise is louder when the car is cold, and between 2000 and 2500 RPM's. I read somewere about all 91' having a problem with leaky manifolds, could that be my problem, and if it is, how can I fix it. Thanx for any help you can provide... Raul O'Brien obrien_38@hotmail.com P.S. Do you know of a good shop in the philadelphia/South Jersey area I can go to. Im tired of seeing mechanics cringe every time I pull in, even the dealer has had problems finding one of their guys willing to work on my car... Thanx again..

Jim, I have been looking everywhere for the flip up projectors and I came accrose your site. Ever since I saw your lights I've completely forgot about the flip ups and at the same time I can't get your lights out of my head. Is it possible for you to make me a pair at a price you can decide. All I ask is that you put the lights together with the same love that you had when making your own. Please e-mail me at SLYGUY19440@yahoo.com. Owner of a 93t.

hey there! i wondered how you realized the problem with the front wheel arch on your mk2. there's none! since a few months i play with the idea to buy a bomex front, but i've never thought about the fitting of the wheel arch.. is it possible to use the stock wheel arch or do you have to make modifications on it? greetings from germany, bjorn schell kentaki@arcor.de p.s. i was suprised by reading vassili bertaki's name on your guest list ;-)

Just been reading some of the comments. It is true, you are an insperation to a lot of people. I was going to keep my car stock as it is in near mint condition and a rare example of a UK spec (yes Im from the UK) NA with T-Bar Rev1 (1991) which over here is a rare thing. But some idiot drove in to the side of me causing slight damage which the paint cannot be matched (12 years of red paint in the sun is hard to match, well impossible) so a respray is in order for the repairs and I wanted a black 2 so going black (The beast inspired that!) and have some nice plans to make a fun car even more fun.... watch this space Cheers

Mr. Griffin, I have a question that I hope you'll be able to give me some advice about: I just purchased a 1994 MR2 NA with the 5S-FE engine. I have been quite surprised that I haven't found much info on adding a K&N or similar air intake system for this particular engine. What I would like to do is to add a TOMS-lstyle scoop to my car and reroute an air intake around or up into the the lower portion of the TOMS-style scoop in hopes of improving performance, but also in hopes of reducing the frequency of having to change out the air filter, which I hear is something that must be done quite often on this car. As a matter of fact; the first thing I did when I got the car home was change the air filter. It was fairly dirty too. I don't intend on really hopping up this car other than adding a header and an exhaust system and recessed headlights. Recessing the headlights is something that I had thought would be a great thing to do to this car long before I bought one and was quite amused when I saw your car pictured on one of the many websites I have surfed through. From the moment I saw that someone had actually tried out the idea; I began searching the web until I found your sight. I'm impressed!!! I'm in my 40's now but have laid fiberglass ever since I was 13 and built everything from hot-tubs to boats and even Porsche 935 and Datsun 240Z race cars. I definitely plan on recessing the lights on my own car too sometime. I have a few questions concerning how you made your recessed headlights: (1) How have you dealt with the problem of adjusting each headlight? (2) How difficult was it changing the wiring to handle the headlights. (3) Have you ever considered making your headlight covers with a bubbled or bulged up surface similar to those found on the Corvette C5R's? Thank you in advance for any advice that you may be able to share with me. David Anderson P.O.Box 663 Sugar LAnd, TX 77487 281-565-7139 FarEastLA@aol.com P.S. I will be passing through B'Ham Thursday evening on my way to visit my Mother in Montgomery, but I wouldn't want to impose on you and your family and ask to see your car on such short notice. But I would like to stay in touch and maybe come see your car in the future. I hope to find an MR2 Turbo sometime in the not-to-distant future so I too can build myself a hot rod. Like you, I have owned a ton of high-dollar sports cars, but this little MR2 offers a lot of bang for the buck and will probably still be running strong when when the high-dollar cars are needing some serious restoration. Thanks again!!!

I'm glad the surgery was a success and i hope that you get back on your feet sooner than doctors expected. swimming is the best way to strengthen the muscles, that is if you can find an indoor pool, kinda cold this season lol. Well since you've done pretty much everything we can dream of on a 2, think of flairing it like scott richardson 2? too many trd wide bodys out there but a very few flaired ones like richardsons. In my opinion will definately fit the beast character. the "get out of my way look" of course it already has that.:)E-mail me when you get a chance. get well soon! ~LOU~ ronin717@hotmail.com

HI,Jim and June. Just an Mr2 fan stumbled upon your site. Good Job! For 1 second I thought you were a previous friend,( John& June from Gainsville Fla.) Lotus fans. They bought the business from my uncle Rick Cline. R.C. Racing. We were at Mid Ohio for the nationals a few weeks ago. Seriuos race RX7's. I am currently finishing a first gen wide body kit, my design. It looks like it has carrera rear 1/4's people confuse it with a Porshe ALL the time. I am just curious, after visiting your site if we know any of the same people. Rick Cline won the Cannonball Dash. 1975. In Jack Mays Ferrari 246GT. Believe it or not, they still hold the record. New York to San Bernardino Calif. Are you ready? 33 hrs. 53 minutes! Made the cover of Time Magazine, May 5, 1975. Enough of that! I have some killer RX's if your interested in some pix. 52mm. Weber side drafts on a rotary. Custom glas, soon to be marketed. (I need Connected people like yourself to help market it. And it pays). This is what I was lookig for when I first logged on to you site. MR2 Fiberglas.Rear 1/4's to be exact. I'm not going to market this car. I just need to know if there is anything even out there for it. Maybe I will build a GT car if there is a market. Thanks for your time, Jeffrey J. Beatty RX Glas. Hi Jim, My name is Greg married to a wonderful wife name Mindy that recently gave birth to our first born Son now almost 3months old. We live in MD northwest of Washington DC. I want to tell you that I really admire the dedications that you have towards your MR2 and especially your family. I remember stumbling on your website when I first bought my 2 a few years ago. I'm really amazed then and I'm still amazed today. Back then I found a site that sold the flush headlight for the 2 back then. But it has been a while and recently I have have been looking for that very same kit but no luck. I know you have done a imaculate piece of work on your flush headlights and I don't think I can come close if I try to make one for myself. But since I don't have any choice in buying a kit. I hope you would help me build one. I have purchase the Lexan piece for the cover. I like to know how I can mold the shape of the cover on the Lexan. The light housings is probably the hardest for me to make. I don't have much tools to bend those aluminum sheets and to make it look professional like your without any kink would be extra hard. I'm basically asking for help with this project. If you would allow me to contact you by phone I rather call. BTW, I sorry about the lost of your son reading from the club mr2 news letter. Greg Ly
